UPDATED: Highway 68 fatal Collision between Leesburg and Sand Rock in Cherokee County

According to WEIS RADIO: Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton has confirmed that one person was fatally injured Tuesday morning in a fiery crash involving an 18 wheeler and a car on Alabama Highway 68 West between Leesburg and Sand Rock.

Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton says the victim was identified as a resident of DeKalb County – 42-year-old Jamie Lynn Murphy.  She was pronounced dead at the scene after her 2014 Chevy Cruze collided with an 18-wheeler on 68 West, between Leesburg and Sand Rock.  She was ejected from the vehicle.  The 2014 Freightliner caught fire; however, the driver, a resident of Piedmont, managed to escape with only minor injuries.

That collision took place at 10:42 am according to the accident report.
