STAFF REPORTS

Police, fire and public works crews stayed busy Thursday morning as trees started falling, thanks to the saturated ground from the recent rains.

A large tree completely blocked both lanes of Mt. Alto Road.

Live power lines were down on Sand Springs Road near Fouche Gap Road.

Georgia Power crews were on-site, isolating the power.

According to Floyd County E-911, several other roads were impacted by trees and/or power lines down.

Georgia power reports that there were close to 4,000 without electricity in the Rome and Floyd County area.

Most of the outages were in the West Rome area, affecting residents on Burnett Ferry Road, Radio Springs Road, Smith Road, Wilkerson Road, Williamson Street, and other side streets.
