GDOT Update: raised median being installed at Highway 41 and Zena Drive in Cartersville

December 2nd, 2019 – 3:45 PM

Georgia DOT Northwest Press Release –

We’re putting in a raised median at Highway 41 and Zena Drive in Cartersville. The median will prevent motorists from turning left onto Highway 41 from either Zena Drive or Hickory Lane – Crash data for the intersection necessitated the raised median. Construction will cause some delays and shifting lanes in the area, but we expect it to be completed by December 12. In five years, there were 30 crashes at the intersection, with more than half of them having a serious injury or fatality.

RCUT (Reduced Conflict U-Turn) intersections have been shown to reduce crashes at an un-signalized intersection by 44%.

Additionally, this will decrease delays on the side streets, which currently reach 300 seconds during peak hours. The RCUT will bring delays down to 20 seconds.
