Mary Saintfort-

For most families decorating a Christmas tree is one of the best ways to spend time with your loved ones this Christmas season. Between planning trips to visit family, buying gifts, getting pictures taken with Santa and let’s not forget kids home from school, it can be a little hectic. Especially for this family of six that had a Christmas tree fire:

According to Walker County Fire officials, lights left on overnight on a Christmas tree are to blame for a mobile home fire that destroyed the residence of a family of six, who had to be rescued from the burning structure on Wednesday morning. A total of four people were transported for medical care, including a sixty-year-old man who suffered second and third-degree burns. The other three family members were treated for smoke inhalation. Fire officials in Walker County say that working smoke alarms that activated inside the mobile home warned the family of the fire and likely saved their lives.

I’m here with Linda Patty at the Rome Firefighters Education Department speaking on how you and your family can stay safe this holiday season.
