[VIDEO] Rome/Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority 2019 Highlights Meeting

On Tuesday morning the Rome/Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority held a meeting covering its 2019 highlights and some plans for 2020 at the Floyd County Administration Building.

Some of the 2019 Parks Division highlights included:

  • Completing the Etowah Driving Range Building.
  • Replacing Goals and resurfacing basketball courts at Eagle & Tolbert Parks.
  • Installed playground spinners at Ridgeferry Park.
  • Installed Water fountain and bench at Ridge Ferry Dog Park.
  • Added disc golf course to Shag Williams Park.

Some New Programs Introduced in 2019 by the Parks Division included:

  • The Summer Feeding Program (5,873 meals served).
  • Adult Basketball (9 Teams and 104 players).
  • Championship Rings.
  • Pop-up Fitness and Walking Club.
  • Free Sport-Clinics (Baseball, Volleyball, and Boys/Girls Basketball).

As for 2019 Athletics:

– 3,139 youth participated in sports.

– 585 Coaches Volunteered.

– 1,038 Games were played.

– 260 free clinic participants.

– 16,872 points scored in Basketball.

– 5,523 Runs scored in Baseball/Softball.

–  11,817 Swimmers.

– 145 Challenger Sports Athletes.

– 200+ Dancers at Line Jamboree.

The Parks and Rec. plans for 2020 include:

  • Moving the Lock and Dam registration to “Reserve America.”
  • Transitioning Concessions Stands to be able to utilize Debit/Credit Cards.
  • Continue to look for sponsors for programs and events.

$75,000 is being requested for earmarking to be utilized for a playground spinner at Ridge Ferry Park, park fencing, artificial turf for Riverview Park batting cages, and shade at Riverview Park.

$77,675 is requested for non-capital equipment, 121,500 for Capital. Some of the money is earmarked for security upgrades, completion of driving range, and to redo the floor at the Thornton Center.
