Georgia Department of Transportation –

Motorists traveling Highway 41 near Adairsville can now use a new bridge to cross over Old Highway 41 just south of the city. The replacement bridge was completed in May and built alongside the original bridge.

Construction of the bridge began in late January 2018 was finished last month. Georgia Department of Transportation determined the older bridge needed to be replaced following a routine inspection of the bridge. The $4.15 million project was one of three bridge projects that opened to traffic in May.

In Floyd County, a State Route 1 bridge over Highway 20 at the junction with Highway 411 was repaired and improved, and the bridge on State Route 8 over the Tallapoosa River in Haralson was also enhanced and updated. Work on the two bridges began in March of last year and cost about $1.56 million.

“Our bridges are inspected regularly,” said GDOT District Six Engineer Grant Waldrop. “If repairs or replacements are needed, our goal is to complete them quickly with as little interruption to the local traffic as possible.”
