203 Floyd County students/staff quarantined

Monday is day three of the new school year and 203 Floyd County students and staff are spending it in quarantine.

On Sunday, it was announced that a student or staff member at Coosa High School has tested positive for COVID-19 and approximately 107 students/employees have been deemed close contacts by Department of Public Health guidelines and are receiving additional correspondence from the school.

On Saturday, it was announced that 73 students and/or staff at Coosa Middle School were being quarantined after they were deemed to have had close contact with a person at that school who tested positive.

Coosa Middle School parents received the following notice:

“A student/employee at Coosa Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19. Approximately 73 students/employees have been deemed close contacts by DPH guidelines and are receiving additional correspondence from the school.

We continue to encourage all families to temperature scan and monitor students closely for any sign of potential illness. Students should remain at home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, new or persistent cough, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue and/or stomach issues (diarrhea). Please remember that the school principal should be notified if parents or students develop multiple symptoms and/or a positive COVID-19 test result.”

Last Friday, it was announced that an employee or student at Pepperell Primary School has tested positive for COVID-19 resulting in 23 resulting in 23 students and/or staff being quarantined.

A notice sent to Pepperell Primary parents stated:

“A student/employee at Pepperell Primary School has tested positive for COVID-19. All students/employees who have been deemed a close contact have already received additional correspondence from the school. A close contact is defined by the Department of
Public Health (DPH) as less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes during the positive student or employee’s infectious period (this time frame is cumulative).

We have implemented FCS safety protocols in partnership with the DPH for cleaning and
sanitizing any affected areas. We continue to encourage all families to temperature scan and monitor students closely for any
sign of potential illness. The school principal should be notified if parents, students, and employees of Pepperell Primary School develop multiple symptoms and/or a positive test result. Students should remain at home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, new or persistent cough, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue and/or stomach issues (diarrhea). Any absence due to COVID-19 is considered excused.”

Meanwhile, Polk County schools are closed to students this week for teacher planning.

Students will return next week and will only be attending school Tuesday through Friday.

Mondays will be for teachers to create digital lessons and videos while allowing for an additional day of deep cleaning the school buildings.
