Charges filed in fatal Cartersville wreck

Charges have now been filed in connection with a fatal wreck that occurred Sunday afternoon in Cartersville.

53-year old Myra Turner of Cartersville was killed when her Chevy Camaro was hit by a U-haul truck on Highway 20 at Roving Road.

A passenger in her vehicle was transported to Cartersville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

36-year-old Jonathan Mitchell of Cartersville is charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence, failure to yield turning left, improper turn, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident with death, a seat belt violation, and theft by taking.

Following the wreck with the Camaro, Mitchell reportedly carjacked another vehicle that had stopped near the scene.

He was later located and apprehended by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
