Floyd County Commission releases statement on COVID-19

December 12, 2020–3:20 p.m.

NEWS RELEASE

On behalf of the Floyd County Board of Commissioners, Chair Scotty Hancock released a statement today in reference to the growing cases of COVID-19 in our community.

“My fellow citizens, as the season has brought cooler weather and holidays, it is difficult to refrain from our traditional activities that bring us together with family and friends.  Unfortunately, this also brings a rise in COVID-19 cases to our community.  Our hospitals and healthcare heroes have worked tirelessly since March to keep us safe. They are becoming overburdened as hospitalizations rise.  It is now the time for us to be their heroes.  I, along with my fellow commissioners, am asking all Floyd County citizens to step up in the fight against COVID-19.  No laser vision or super strength is needed to be someone else’s hero at this time.  All we need to do is simply follow the guidelines of the CDC and the Department of Public Health.  Wear a mask, practice good hygiene and wash our hands, and watch our distance maintaining at least six feet between ourselves and others.  I also encourage our local businesses to sign up for the Rome Georgia Safe pledge.  The pledge is a partnership between the City of Rome, Floyd County, Floyd Medical Center, the Georgia Department of Public Health, Harbin Clinic, and Redmond Regional Medical Center to help protect our citizens, visitors, and healthcare workers.  We strongly believe that our community can work together to stop the spread and safely enjoy the holidays.”
