Inmates facing charges following incident at Floyd County Jail

FLOYD COUNTY JAIL RECORDS

Two inmates at the Floyd County Jail are facing charges after they reportedly jumped on another inmate Sunday.

According to jail records, 25-year old Toby Keith Johnson of Silver Creek and 37-year old William Dewayne Vessell of Rome punched and kicked the victim for approximately 56 seconds, causing swelling to the man’s left jaw and cheek as well as abrasions to the back of his neck.

The incident was seen on video.

Vessell was charged with battery while Johnson is charged with battery, unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution, and interference with government property.

The report states that Johnson had had three sprinkler head parts belonging to the jail in his possession.
