An 18-year old is accused of misleading police who were investing a shooting that occurred back on December 11.
According to an arrest warrant, John Daniel Whatley III led investigators on a search for alleged suspects in the shooting, and even named suspects, when he knew the event had taken place and that there were no other suspects.
Whatley eventually admitted that he had fabricated the story about the victim being shot by another person and that the shooting had taken place inside a vehicle that he and others were in.
And that the shooting was an accident.
Whatley is charged with false statements and writings.
