NEWS RELEASE

Carolyn Ellissia Smyth, member of BSA Troup 113G, will be presented the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America on Sunday March 28th at 2:30 pm at the Eco center in Ridge Ferry Park, Rome Ga.

Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process and what makes this even more unique, is that Carolyn is one if the first women in Georgia and the very first woman in Northwest Georgia to achieve this honor.

“My brother and cousins are Eagle Scouts and I wanted to be one as well. So when  the opportunity through the BSA opened up for females to achieve this honor, I just knew I could do it.” Carolyn stated. “ It is one of my most treasured accomplishments, and I am very proud to help blaze this trail for other young women.”

BSA opened this opportunity for women in 2019 and since then, several young women across the country have earned the rank of Eagle. Carolyn also stated; “It was very challenging. There is no difference in the requirements for women or men for reaching Eagle. I learned so much and truly enjoyed the Eagle journey”

Carolyn is a Senior at Coosa High School where she is a honor graduate. She is planning to attend Philmont Scout Ranch, the Boy Scouts of America’s premier High Adventure camp, this summer and will be heading to Georgia Southern in the Fall to study outdoor recreation.
