City Commission approves 11 a.m. start time for alcohol package sales on Sundays

April 12, 2021–8:37 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission has approved an alcohol ordinance amendment pertaining to the hours of package sales on Sundays.

The amendment allows packages sales of beer, wine, and liquor starting at 11 a.m. on Sundays instead of the current time of 12:30 p.m.

Restaurants can already sell alcohol by the drink at 11 a.m. on Sundays thanks to the “brunch bill” previously approved by voters.

The commission took no action on a couple of ordinance amendments pertaining to debt obligations for alcohol licensees and alcohol sales permit holders in lieu of further discussion.

The ordinances would require the timely payment of any and all debts and obligations owed to the City of Rome in order to receive or renew a license or permit.

Debts or obligations could mean any fees, fines, civil penalties, excise taxes, occupational taxes, and utility bills.

The proposed ordinances will be discussed during this Wednesday’s Rome Downtown Development Authority meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Carnegie Training Room.
