The Floyd County Commission has approved the appropriation of $71,790 in additional matching funds for the Redmond Trail project.

The lowest bid for work came in significantly higher than the original federal grant funds awarded for the project, resulting in the local contribution having to be revised.

Assistant Floyd County Manager Gary Burkhalter said the county worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation to come up with additional funds.

“The local share was $167,630.60,” he said.  “Additional DOT funds were $270,522.41, and that would get us to the bid amount of $838,153.”

On Monday, the Rome City Commission approves its share of $71.790.

“What we are talking about is a bridge that will go from the end of the levee trail,” said Rome City Manager Sammy Rich.  “It will bridge over Little Dry Creek and ultimately connect downtown on the west side of the river to our trail system, namely the Mt. Berry Trail.”

TRED of Rome will also contribute to the project to the tune of $25,000.
