STAFF REPORTS

The Floyd County Board of Education took no action on the renaming of Alto Park Elementary School during a called meeting Wednesday morning, opting instead to discuss the matter further.

Earlier this year, the board voted to close Cave Spring Elementary at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Cave Spring students will be moved to Alto Park.

During the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Glenn White explained the recommendation to change the name of the school.

“If we are going to do this and we want to change the signage, the board has to vote for that as per our policy,” he said.  “That’s why I brought it up as an agenda item so that we can get a sign in place.  I would like to have all that in place for next year as we make the transition with Cave Spring coming to Alto Park and the rebranding…..to form a connection and say ‘Look, this is Coosa Elementary School and we are all together,’”

Dr. White added that the new sign could be moved once a new school is built.

Dr. White added there will be further discussions with the Local School Governance teams from Cave Spring and Alto Park.
