GSP investigating fatal Gordon County wreck involving motorcycle

(According to the Georgia State Patrol, these are the preliminary investigative findings, and this crash is still under investigation.)

 On June 13, 2021,  at 1:35 p.m., the Calhoun Police Department requested assistance from the Georgia State Patrol Post 43 Calhoun with a fatal crash in their city.

A passenger car driven by 51-year-old Mr. Eddie Lee Hampton of Calhoun, Georgia was traveling west on Fairmount Highway just east of Lovers Lane Road.

A motorcycle driven by 54-year-old Mr. Jeffery Grady Lingerfelt of Calhoun, Georgia was traveling east on Fairmount Highway.

Mr. Hampton made an improper U-Turn on Fairmount Highway in front of the motorcycle operated by Mr. Lingerfelt.

The motorcycle struck the passenger car during the improper U-turn and Mr. Lingerfelt suffered fatal injuries.

Alcohol is suspected to be involved in this crash.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with this investigation. The crash report is incomplete at this time.
