Local unemployment rates fall in July

The unemployment rate in the Rome area dropped to 3% in July.

The jobless rate was 4.2% in June, and 7.4% in July of last year.

Bartow County’s unemployment rate was 2.8%, down from 4% the month before and 7.3% in July of 2020.

Gordon County checked in with a rate of 2.7%, down from 3.5% in June and 6.2% in July of last year.

Chattooga County was at 3.8%, down from 5.7% over the month and 9.8% over the year.

Polk County’s unemployment rate was 2.8%.

It was 3.9% in June and 6.7% in July of 2020.

The Rome area also reported 40,600 jobs last month, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

That is down by about a thousand from the previous month, but up by 1,200 from this time last year.
