Two people were able to escape without serious injury following a plane crash Saturday afternoon in Calhoun.

Tom B. David Airport Manager Dwight Albritton told the Calhoun Times that the locally-owned Mooney M20-C aircraft suffered an engine failure immediately after takeoff.

The pilots made an emergency landing and the plane skidded off the runway.

It went down an embankment and caught fire.

Both pilots got out under their own power.

One Pilot went to the hospital complaining of some lower back pain.
