Rome and Floyd County’s four-day celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. begins Friday.
the weekend of events starts Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the Birthday Talent Showcase at the Rome City Auditorium, which will feature dancing, singing, spoken Word, and other talents.
On Saturday, January 13, the Family Prayer Breakfast is from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Lovejoy Baptist Church Life Center at 436 Branham Avenue. The Keynote Speaker will be Barbara Lashley, Deputy Superintendent of the Rome City Schools. It will also feature the MLK Jr. Community Children’s Choir. Tickets are on sale at Kroger. Then on Sunday, January 14, the Ecumenical Service will be held at the Christ Temple Rapture Preparation Cathedral at 1321 MLK Jr. Boulevard. It will feature Keynote Speaker Pastor Le’Zaire Reese of New Calvary Baptist Church in Atlanta and the MLK Jr. Celebration Choir directed by Taurence Phillips.
Then that Monday, the Freedom March will make it way up Broad Street at 11:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at 11:00 am at First St. and Broad.
The march will be followed by the Noon Program at the Rome City Auditorium. The Keynote Speaker will be Rodney Bullard, former college football standout, author, veteran, lawyer, CEO of The Same House, and former director of the Chick-Fil-A Foundation. The program also features the MLK JR. Celebration Choir
Lunch will be provided immediately following the program at the Rome Civic Center on Jackson Hill.
