Under state law, establishments that sell alcohol on Sundays must meet a 50-50 food-to-drink ratio. However, cities can designate one Sunday a year to allow businesses that do not meet that requirement to serve.
Six establishments in the City of Rome would qualify.
In 2023, the Rome City Commission designated New Year’s Eve as that one Sunday.
In 2024, the Alcohol Control Commission discussed two possible days—Super Bowl Sunday or St. Patrick’s Day.
A survey of the six establishments in Rome that would qualify was split with three preferring Super Bowl Sunday and three opting for St. Patrick’s Day.
The ACC decided not to make a recommendation and let the Rome City Commission make the decision.
The item is on the agenda for Monday’s city commission meeting.
