Man accused of strangling woman
A South Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated assault.
According to the warrant:
23-year-old JaJuan Marquis Hunter put his hands around a woman’s throat and strangled her.
The victim had visible marks and bruising around both sides of her neck, all the way back to her ears.
The incident occurred on January 17 at Hunter’s Etowah Terrace apartment.
Man charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
A North Rome man initially arrested for DUI on Gordon Avenue was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of items prohibited for inmates.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
44-year-old Rory Lushon Chatman was found with a Ruger pistol.
He was also driving with a learner’s permit without another person in the vehicle and was cited for violation of a CP permit.
Once at the jail, suspected marijuana was found in Chatman’s pocket.
Two inmates charged after fight
Two women were arrested following a fight at the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
22-year-old Gracie Jean Bray and 33-year-old Caitlin Rae Whittle got into a physical altercation with another inmate, who sustained physical injuries.
Bray has been in jail since September and is being held for Chattooga County authorities while Whittle was jailed on January 23 on charges of aggravated assault, loitering or prowling, and theft by receiving stolen property.
Both are now charged with simple battery and unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution.
Woman accused of trying to pay for merchandise with counterfeit money
A Silver Creek woman is accused of stealing more than $3,600 in miscellaneous from the East Rome Walmart Wednesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
53-year-old Tracy Jean Dutton attempted to pay for merchandise with counterfeit money.
She is charged with felony theft by shoplifting and 1st-degree forgery.
Man charged with shoplifting, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
A West Rome man arrested Wednesday on a theft by shoplifting charge is facing additional charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
32-year-old Corey Jose July took $114 in merchandise from Walmart on Redmond Circle.
He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a misdemeanor count of obstruction of officers.
