The Floyd County Commission has approved a couple of items related to a dog park at Shag Williams Park in Shannon.

Commissioners approve the addition of $15,000 to the 2017 special purpose, local option sales tax account for the project.

They also approved a contract for fencing.

“The bid is from Chavez Fence and Lawncare in the amount of $11,820,” said Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord. “We’re using 2017 SPLOST funds. This vendor reflects the lowest bid price, and the remainder of the funds that you approved earlier will be utilized for the concrete apron and sidewalks.”

Commissioners also awarded a bid for a major project at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport.

“This has been a long time coming and it is a big project for us,” McCord said. “We’re awarding the Runway 1/19 & parallel taxiway extension paving, lighting, and marking package to Bartow Paving Company in the amount of $6,987,130.00. This will require a budget increase of $2,466,925.  The vendor submitted a responsive bid which was also the lowest bid.”

Funds for the project come from the 2013 special purpose, local option sales tax.
