Man charged with aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft

A 30-year-old Celanese man was jailed on multiple charges following a reported altercation on Shorter Avenue Thursday morning.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Stephen Kyle Ingram attempted to strangle a woman and left scratch marks on her leg.

Ingram also disconnected the woman’s landline phone and took her cell phone before taking a vehicle belonging to the victim’s mother to leave the scene.

Ingram is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, theft by taking a motor vehicle, battery, obstructing a person from making a 911 call, misdemeanor theft by taking, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Teen charged in vehicle break-ins

A Rome teen has been charged with entering three automobiles.

According to the arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

17-year-old Michael Ali Powell entered two vehicles on McCrary Drive on October 27, taking a Hi-Point 45 from one of the vehicles and a JBL speaker from another.

That same day, Powell entered a vehicle on Mount Alto Road and stole $80.

He is charged with three counts of entering an auto, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and misdemeanor counts of theft by taking.

Florida man accused of stealing $19,993 from local senior

A man from Miami, Florida was booked into the Floyd County Jail Tuesday on charges of exploitation of an elder person, financial transaction fraud, and theft by taking.

According to an arrest warrant and other jail records:

35-year-old Ricky Whitfield took $19,993 from the bank account of a man who is over the age of 65.

Whitfield used the victim’s account information to transfer money to his own account four different times in June of last year.

Report: Man found with Adderall during probation check

A Wayside Road man was jailed Thursday on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

During a probation check, 36-year-old William Matthew Coley Thornton was found with 16 Adderall pills in plastic baggies.

Thornton is charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of drugs not in the original container, and a probation violation.

Man charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

An Aragon man is facing a felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

A vehicle driven by 43-year-old Justin Wade Dempsey was stopped on Shorter Avenue at Coosawattee Avenue for a window tint violation.

Following a K9 indication, a rifle was located in the vehicle.

Dempsey is also charged with violating the mandatory education for children between 6 and 16 statute because his child has 22 unexcused absences from school.
