Calhoun man arrested for drug trafficking and weapons violations

Authorities in Gordon County arrested a man late Tuesday night after allegedly discovering a large quantity of drugs and illegal firearms in his vehicle.

According to the Gordon County Sherriff’s Office, Around 11:15 p.m. on February 11th, deputies responded to a suspicious person and vehicle report at a private residence on Cash Road near Sonoraville.

Upon arrival, they identified the individual as 40-year-old Mark Jeffery of Calhoun. Deputies noted that Jeffery appeared to be under the influence and found drugs on his person. He was taken into custody without incident.

A subsequent search of his truck revealed a significant quantity of illegal substances, including methamphetamine, heroin, oxycodone tablets, ecstasy, Xanax, psilocybin mushrooms, and marijuana. Deputies also recovered two illegally possessed firearms.

Jeffery was charged with trafficking in heroin and methamphetamine, possession of Schedule II and IV narcotics, possession of psilocybin mushrooms, and multiple weapons violations.

Further investigation revealed that Jeffery, a former corrections officer, was previously arrested and convicted in 2018 for smuggling drugs into a correctional facility.

Jeffrey remains in custody at the Gordon County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
