The Rome City Commission has voted to deny a special use permit for a duplex at 704 East 17th Street.
The planning commission voted 7-2 to recommend approval, but neighbors expressed concerns about the status and quality of sewer in the area and potholes on East 17th Street.
Commissioner Jamie Doss made the motion to deny citing the opposition from the neighbors and the applicant not being in attendance at either the planning commission or the city commission meeting.
The commission did approve a request to rezone property on Garden Lakes Parkway from Multifamily Residential to Suburban Residential.
The applicant would like to develop 9 or 10 single-family residential homes near Fox Croft Road.
