The Rome City Commission will consider a resolution regarding the 2025 Estimated Ad Valorem Tax Millage Rate when it meets on Monday night.
Due to legislation passed by the Georgia General Assembly, local taxing authorities are now required to submit an estimated ad valorem tax mill rate prior to the distribution of property assessment notices and submission of the annual tax digest by the local Board of Tax Assessors.
The estimated rates are 9.80 for city maintenance and operations, which includes 1.90 for city capital. Another 17.25 mills for city schools brings the total estimate to 27.05.
This is not setting the millage rate, it’s just an estimate.
After the 2025 City of Rome Tax Digest is submitted, the Rome City Commission will proceed to calculate and adopt the final 2025 tax mill rate to be used to determine the 2025 tax bills.
Also Monday, the commission will vote on annexation requests for 500 Elliott Drive and 2705 Garden Lakes Boulevard. Both come from the planning commission with unanimous recommendations to approve.
A penalty recommendation for Party Time Beverages at 2792C Martha Berry Boulevard is also on the agenda for the meeting. The Alcohol Control Commission is recommending a $2,000 fine and a 30-day alcohol license suspension after the business was cited for selling to a minor.
The commission meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.
The caucus starts at 5 p.m. and will include a presentation from Heath and Lineback Engineers.
