Despite a rainy month of May, the renovations at Banty Jones Park in East Rome are still on schedule.
Rome Community Development Director Bekki Fox gave an update on Monday’s First News with Doug Walker on WRGA.
“Headley Construction Company is overseeing that project for us, and it’s just amazing what they have been able to do,” she said. “They had built in some rainy days into their schedule, and we appear to be still on track for a completion in late August or early September. So, we are just anticipating that, and there have already been tremendous changes made in the park.”
One change you may have noticed at the park is a new building that has gone up.
“That building is going to be the restroom building, the mechanical building for the splash pad and the security system—stuff like that,” Fox said. “It is going to have state-of-the-art restrooms. There were only two stalls in that park for years and years. I think we are going to have six stalls there now.”
Of course, the main attraction will be a splash pad.
“It’s just going to be jets, kind of like you’d find downtown,” Fox said. “However, it’s going to be a really neat kind of map of Broad Street. Then, throughout the park, there will be other maps that coincide with that, kind of like trails showing that you are here, and then you are on Maple. So, it’s just really neat how the designers have incorporated that into the design. There is also going to be a walking path, there is going to be a big oval track where people can go and get their exercise.”
The park will also feature a small amphitheatre, state-of-the-art playgrounds, pavilions, new signage, a boardwalk area, and a place for food trucks.
