The Floyd County Board of Education will conduct a first reading of a new policy regarding the use of electronic devices by students when it meets Monday morning.
The policy is in accordance with Georgia’s “Distraction-Free Education Act,” which prohibits students in Pre-K through 8th grade from accessing personal electronic devices, such as smartphones, while on school premises during school hours.
This policy allows for students whose Individual Education Program, Section 504, or medical plan explicitly mandates the use of a personal electronic device for medical or educational purposes to have access to the device as necessary to fulfill the requirements of the respective program or plan.
Again, this is a first reading only.
A vote is expected during the board’s August meeting.
Monday’s Floyd County Board of Education meeting starts at 7:30 am at the central office on Riverside Parkway.
