Floyd County receives an unmodified opinion, which is a clean opinion regarding its 2024 financial statements.
The opinion means that the financial statements were materially correct as provided by management.
James Bence, engagement partner with Mauldin and Jenkins, presented the audit report during Tuesday’s Floyd County Commission meeting.
He stated that the audit was conducted in accordance with generally accepted and government auditing standards.
“Because you all had over $750 in federal expenditures, we are also required to have a single audit where we test internal controls and compliance with federal compliance for the selected programs,” Bence told the commission. “This year, your major program was the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery funds.”
An unmodified or clean opinion was issued on that program as well.
“So, as a result of this year’s audit, our compliance reports issued clean opinions,” Bence said. There were no material weaknesses identified in financial reporting controls. There were no material weaknesses in the internal controls surrounding compliance with the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery funds, as well as no material non-compliance. So, an overall good, clean opinion, and good, clean reports this year on both the financial reporting and compliance with that particular program.”
Also Tuesday, the county commission approved a resolution to close a portion of Houston Street in Southeastern Floyd County.
“It is an unopened and unimproved section of Houston Street that runs from Mathis Road over to New Orleans Boulevard—or actually to the dead-end,” said Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord. “There is no physical roadway in place. It is an unopened, unimproved right-of-way. We will run two ads in the Rome News-Tribune, per state law, and then we will conduct a public hearing at the appropriate meeting. What this will do is allow adjoining property owners to utilize the road, as well as put it back on the tax rolls.”
As part of the consent agenda, the commission approved a request from Parks and Recreation to increase rental rates for the five fields at the Upper Alto Complex from $300 to $750 per day for the full complex.
