It started out as a chilly New Year’s morning, perfect weather for the annual Cave Spring Polar Plunge.
The event has been going on for well over a decade.
“The late Mike Ragland came up with the idea, and I told him he was crazy when he said it,” said Billy Wayne Abernathy with the Cave Spring Historical Society. “But Mike Ragland helped start it and get it established, and we have kept it going over the years.”
Following the plunge, there was a traditional New Year’s Day meal of baked ham, collards, and black-eyed peas.
Those who took the plunge also got a t-shirt.
All the money raised goes to the historical society to help with the upkeep of the buildings in the park.
