The City of Rome’s Landmarking Committee is recommending three sites to be added as local landmarks.
After a discussion during the committee’s July meeting, regarding sites for consideration, David Mitchell moved to landmark the Fairbanks Manufacturing facility, located on North Division Street.
Fairbanks is one of if not the oldest manufacturing facilities in Rome.
The motion also included the landmarking of the Robert Redden Footbridge near the confluence of the Etowah and Oostanaula Rivers.
This is the fiftieth anniversary of the Robert Redden Footbridge, and it also stands as the first Rails to Trails bridge in Georgia.
Finally, the motion included landmarking for the Broadus Coker Bridge in North Rome.
This bridge spans the Southern Railroad at Calhoun Avenue and was an important structure for transportation in that area.
The vote to approve the motion was unanimous.
