25 years after the Tragedy in New York and at the Pentagon, Rome still remembers September 11th. A commemorative service was held at the Rome-Floyd Fire Department Plaza that morning. At 8:45, people gathered around the plaza, as everything from drums to bagpipes was played as a memorial to those who lost their lives that tragic day.
The memorial itself was led by Rome’s Public Information Officer Doug Walker with musical accompaniments played and sung by Marcia Ely, Amanda Scholl, Garrett Henderson, the Rome Fire Department Honor Guard, Rome Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Thacker, and Rome Fire Department Captain Landon Tibbits.
Doug Walker’s Speech at the event highlighted the resilience of the United States shortly after the attack, and that we should never forget the individuals who gave everything for others on that tragic day.
