Prison inmate charged with aggravated assault
A man from Grayson, Georgia, is accused of assaulting an inmate at the Floyd County Prison on September 13.
According to the arrest warrant:
19-year-old Caleb Antonio Whitaker fashioned a weapon by tying a lock to a string.
He then approached the other inmate in dorm #3 near the shower-side bathroom and struck him multiple times about the head and body with the weapon.
The other inmate sustained a substantial head injury.
Whitaker is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault.
Two charged with child cruelty
The execution of a search warrant on September 4 at a residence on Turkey Mountain Road in northern Floyd County has resulted in child cruelty charges being filed.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
A 2-year-old child was found living in a bug-infested home with methamphetamine within reach.
The environment was so unhealthy that it caused physical and mental pain for the child.
45-year-old Roland Jovan Johnson and 27-year-old Marissa Shaye Cannon are charged with 2nd-degree cruelty to children.
They were already in the jail after previously being booked on charges of trafficking meth and possession of meth with the intent to distribute.
Man charged with false imprisonment
A Kingston Highway man was jailed on Tuesday on a felony warrant charging him with false imprisonment.
According to the warrant and Floyd County Jail records:
46-year-old Ricky Howard Mann II grabbed a woman and pulled her back into a vehicle.
He would not let the victim leave, despite her asking multiple times for him to let her go and screaming for help.
She was attempting to leave the vehicle because Mann was irate and attempted to pull the steering wheel away from her as she was driving.
Mann also slapped the victim, busting her lip, and grabbed her arm, preventing her from calling for help.
The incident occurred September 14 on Highway 411 and Hillindale Road.
Mann is additionally charged with battery, reckless conduct, and obstructing a person from making a 911 call.
Report: Teen caught with THC vape at Armuchee High
A teenager was arrested Tuesday morning on a felony count of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
17-year-old Austin Michael Monroe of Rome was in possession of a THC vape while at Armuchee High School.
The percentage of the vape was approximately 90 to 95 percent THC.
