A popular event returns to Downtown Rome this weekend.
Schnauzerfest Rome 7 is two days of canine activities and a Halloween finale made for anyone who enjoys a dog in a costume.
The weekend opens Friday, October 30, at 5 p.m. with a Meet & Greet BBQ at Burk Farm outside Rome.
The Forum River Center Arena, 301 Tribune Street, opens at noon for vendor shopping, with scheduled programming beginning at 2 p.m.
“They have some different contests,” said Krist Kent with the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism. “They have an agility contest. They have a “Schnauzerfest Idol” competition, which is schnauzers singing, if you want to hear that. Then, at 6 p.m., they will have their costume contest, which is at Bridgepoint Plaza.”
New this year is the Schnauzerween Night Parade on Saturday, leaving from Bridgepoint Plaza at 7 p.m. and traveling down Broad Street.
“They are doing it differently this year,” Kent said. “They are doing a lighted parade.”
Expect Halloween outfits, glowing strollers, and schnauzers dressed for an evening in the spotlight.
For local families, the parade is an easy way to enjoy the celebration without committing to the full festival.
