GSP reports stated that the Sonata left the roadway to the right, while the tractor-trailer crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes. Once in oncoming traffic, the truck collided with two additional tractor-trailers, a Toyota Corolla, and a Ford Ranger. The Ranger caught fire as a result of the impact.

Three Fatalities were reported (The names of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin). Two others were transported to nearby hospitals, while two more were involved but uninjured.

The accident closed down I-75 South as the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.

At this time, it remains unclear what caused the initial collision in the northbound lanes.
