A routine patrol by law enforcement escalated into a high-speed chase early Saturday morning, ultimately resulting in a major accident involving a fleeing vehicle and a Gordon County Deputy.

According to WBHF Radio in Cartersville:

At approximately 4:34 AM, a Bartow County deputy stationed on Interstate 75 near mile marker 285 clocked a silver Honda Accord traveling at 98 miles per hour in a 70 miles per hour zone. The vehicle, later identified as being operated by 32-year-old Travon Deaundre Underwood of Haddock, failed to stop when emergency lights and sirens were activated, instead accelerating beyond 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit continued as Underwood drove recklessly, passing multiple cars on both the left and right shoulders and weaving through traffic with disregard for other motorists. He exited the interstate at mile marker 312, running a red light before re-entering the highway and continuing the pursuit with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

Gordon County deputies joined the chase, which became increasingly dangerous as Underwood reportedly swerved toward patrol cars attempting to perform a tactical maneuver to stop him. The chase escalated until Underwood collided with a Gordon County unit, leading to a significant crash.

Following the crash, Underwood was removed from his vehicle and taken into custody by Gordon County deputies. He was subsequently transported to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center for treatment before being held at the Bartow County Jail.

He faces multiple charges in Bartow County, including fleeing a police officer.
