WRGA Staff Reports –

A Smyrna man who funneled fentanyl, meth, and other drugs into Bartow County has been sentenced to 12 and a half years in federal prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia, 47-year-old Omari A. Nicks pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl out of his Atlanta apartment while illegally possessing a loaded AR-style rifle. Customers traveled from Bartow County to buy drugs from him, according to investigators.

On February 6th, 2025, DEA agents moved in after observing Nicks sell meth and fentanyl. As they entered his Atlanta apartment, Nicks tried to escape through a third-story window but fell and was arrested. Inside, agents found two kilograms of meth, one kilogram of cocaine, 50 grams of fentanyl, 100 grams of heroin, cash, drug equipment, and a loaded rifle.

Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force Major Mark Mayton said the case shows the county’s aggressive stance against fentanyl dealers. Cartersville Police Chief Frank McCann added that strong partnerships with federal agencies are key to keeping dangerous drugs and weapons out of the community.

The case was investigated by the DEA, the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force, and the Cartersville Police Department and prosecuted as part of Operation Take Back America, a national initiative targeting drug trafficking organizations.
