Some tense moments during a middle school dance on Saturday evening at South Paulding County High School.
According to Ashley Henson with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, there was a disruption involving some of the kids, and a scuffle with a deputy ensued.
“At this point, we believe that one of the kids who initially started this incident struck a vape into another kid’s hoodie,” he said. “Those kids took off, running out of the building, and some excellent adults tackled those kids and stopped them until deputies could get here. At some point during the melee, someone yelled “gun.” So, I want to reiterate, there was no gun found. There was no gun seen. There was no one hurt. Everyone is safe. There’s a lot of hurt feelings.”
The dance was attended by students from Carl Scoggins Sr., Irma C. Austin, and South Paulding Middle Schools.
According to the Paulding County School System, the dance was not a school-sponsored event.
