There will be a heavy public safety presence at Armuchee High School on Monday, but there is no need to worry because it’s only a drill.
The disaster exercise will see emergency personnel transiting back and forth from the Thornton Center to the high school.
Smoke and small explosions will be utilized in this realistic scenario, according to Chris Fincher with Floyd County Emergency Management.
“We just want to inform people again that we are going to be having that emergency exercise on Monday at Armuchee High School,” he said. “It’s kind of unfortunate timing because it comes the day after the air show, so we want to let people know that the activity in the area on Monday is related to our exercise.”
Organizers do not anticipate any interruption of traffic, and any flashing lights or sirens observed in the area may likely be related to this event.
The exercise is scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon.
