The Rome City School Board got an update on the access road that will serve the new Rome Middle School on Tuesday night

There is a deceleration lane there, and its 429 feet, I think, which is about 139 yards if you are looking at a football field to kind of wrap your mind around how long it is,” said Chris Wade, Maintenance and Facilities Officer for the Rome City School System. “You also have an acceleration lane, so when you leave the building, you are able to accelerate and merge into traffic safely as opposed to just having to turn into oncoming traffic. I think there was some information going out that there was not a decal lane and they were concerned about having to turn off the highway without having the opportunity to get over into a decal lane. That’s simply not true. There is a lane for you to be able to do that safely.”

Construction is continuing on the $108 million facility that will serve approximately 1,900 students from grades 6-8.

Construction is still slated for completion in June o next year.
