The Rome City School Board heard more about SchoolDog on Tuesday, which is actually not a dog at all; it’s a safety app.

The app will be on the phones of administrators and school administration managers.

It will provide detailed data for the schools that can be looked at and analyzed, according to Rome City Schools Director of Instructional Technology, Safety, and Operations John Fricks.

“They will be able to go through and track information during their safety walks as they walk throughout the building, checking doors and checking fire hydrants,” he said. “Anything safety-related inside the school, they will be able to track it, keep data on it, and be able to go back, analyze it, and look at it on a weekly basis whenever I do school safety walks throughout the district.”

In addition to the web-based application for leaders to quickly document safety vulnerabilities, hazards, and best practices using photos, other key features of SchoolDog include:

Command Hub

A secure, cloud-based platform to store collected data and generate automated PDF and filtered reports.

Work Order Management Program

A tool for maintenance and facilities staff to submit work orders directly from their phones for safety issues.

Communications Functions

Features like “School Safety Nudges” to remind leaders of district priorities and a “School Safety Leaderboard” to motivate staff.

Neighborhood Watch

A function that notifies other schools when a safety walk is in progress, encouraging proactive leadership.

Task Management

A feature to assign potential safety issues to team members with notifications and photos.
