The USDA has informed the Georgia Department of Human Services that there is insufficient funding to cover November SNAP benefits if the federal shutdown continues.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as Food Stamps, is a federally funded program that provides monthly benefits to low-income households to help pay for the cost of food.
This suspension is effective November 1.
The United Way of Rome and Floyd County has shared a list of food assistance resources for families impacted by the suspension.

In addition, you can call the United Way’s 211 line for more information about food resources.
Households may continue to redeem benefits issued to their electronic benefit transfer card until November 1 at any SNAP authorized retailer.
The suspension applies only to November 2025 benefit issuance to households and does not impact any prior benefits, and as such, the authorization or redemption of benefits at eligible retailers is not impacted.
SNAP benefits are 100% federally and congressionally funded, and DHS disburses the benefits to eligible households.
