Work is continuing on renovations to the Historic Floyd County Courthouse, the new Floyd County Police headquarters, and the joint law enforcement center.
Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord gave an update during Tuesday’s county commission meeting.
“We did open bids on October 28 for the Historic Courthouse renovations,” he said. “We received five bids and they have interviews scheduled on November 18. There was a big spread with a low bid of $159,000 and I think the high bid was right around $800,000, so there are clearly some questions to be asked, and determine what is the best response to those bids.”
Meanwhile, only punch list items remain at the former Glenwood Primary School, which is the new home of county police.
“There are three items to complete to have everything done,” McCord said. “The wash bay, the awning over patrol, and the sewer line in the back.”
McCord also told the commission that construction documents for the 2nd and 3rd floor of the law enforcement center are 95 percent complete.
“We are still on schedule to be able to put those out to bid on December 10, 2025,” he said.
The conversion of the law enforcement center into additional courtroom space, including the relocation of the city and county police department’s, came about as part of local option sales tax negotiations in 2023.
