-Bartow County Government-

As you may know, some of our communication goals focus on connecting the community to the local government, highlighting county improvements, addressing concerns, and keeping citizens informed on changes as quickly as possible.
We would like to take this opportunity to give you some updates about projects on Burnt Hickory Road and the Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor, and how they will help us move forward.
1. What is being done on Burnt Hickory Road and the Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor, and what are the expected benefits of these projects for local traffic and commuters?
– Left turn lanes are being added to Mission Road and Sugar Valley intersections on Burnt Hickory. Expected to be completed by March 2026. The dedicated turn lanes will make left turns off Burnt Hickory safer for the public.
– Right-of-way is being purchased for the Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor. Let date is anticipated to be 2029. The RCDC will expedite freight movement from northwest Georgia to I-75.
2. How is this project being funded?
– Projects on county-maintained roads are largely funded by SPLOST, county general funds, and the Local Maintenance Improvement Grants from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
– The RCDC, State Route 20, and Old Alabama Road projects are state and federally funded.
3. What future road improvement plans are in development for the county?
– In the near-term, residents will see the completion of Old Alabama road widening, reconstruction of the Nancy Creek bridge on Sugar Valley Road, completion of the US 41 bridges in Emerson, and the construction of new bridges over the Etowah River on Euharlee Road and the I-75 bridge over Cedar Creek Road.
– For more information on these and other road plans, the public is invited to check out the MPO website at www.bartowcountyga.gov/mpo.
