A Chattooga County man was arrested following a domestic disturbance on November 11 in which deputies say he sprayed bug spray on his grandmother and later fled from law enforcement.

According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office incident report, 37-year-old Albert Lee Dupree III was taken into custody on charges including Aggravated Assault – Family Violence, Exploitation and Intimidation of Elder Persons, Obstruction of Officers, and Felony Obstruction of Officers.

Deputies responded to a residence on Highway 193 around 8 a.m. after a 911 call reporting a male who was “actively spraying bug spray or roach killer” on his grandmother. The call reportedly came from the victim’s daughter, who was en route to the home.

When the first responding Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived, Dupree was seen walking down the roadway. The deputy attempted to make contact, but Dupree refused verbal commands and walked away. When the deputy activated his lights and attempted to stop him, Dupree ran into the nearby woods. After a short foot chase, the deputy deployed a department-issued Taser, striking Dupree in the back. The Taser was ineffective, and Dupree continued to flee before being stopped a short distance later by a second deputy.

Once secured, Dupree was checked by EMS before being transported back to the residence, where deputies spoke with the victim. The grandmother stated she had been asleep in bed when Dupree came inside her bedroom, covered her blanket with chemicals, and poured them near her while she was sleeping. She also told deputies that Dupree has a history of attacking her.

Dupree was then transported to the Chattooga County Jail, where he was booked on the listed charges. All events were recorded on a body-worn camera.

The case remains under investigation.
