I-75 southbound near Dalton Exit was closed for several hours on Thursday, following a crash with multiple fatalities that was apparently caused by a wrong-way driver.
Whitfield County Sheriff Darren Pierce gave preliminary updates on Thursday afternoon.
Exit 336, here at Rocky Face–I-75 at 336 southbound, we had a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes,” he said. “The vehicle struck a semi-truck. As of right now, we have three confirmed fatalities.”
Deputies had tried to stop the vehicle before the crash for reckless driving.
It is believed the driver may have been impaired.
All three fatalities were in the vehicle that struck the semi.
