The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded month-over-month employment and job growth, with an unemployment rate of 2.7%, down six-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.2%.
“Georgia has always been a state that rewards hard work, and right now, hard work is paying off in a big way,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “Every single metro area in this state added jobs in April, more Georgians are earning mortgage-paying paychecks, and our workforce is more skilled and competitive than ever. That is what it looks like when Georgia, a Top State for Talent, goes to work.”
The labor force in Rome declined by 88 over the month and increased by 67 from April 2025, reaching 48,310.
Rome finished the month with 46,985 employed residents, up 175 over the month and 273 from April 2025.
Rome ended April with 47,100 jobs, up 200 over the month and down 200 from the same time last year.
In April, initial unemployment claims in Rome increased by 10 from the previous month and decreased by 210 from the same month a year ago, totaling 254.
