Janie Ruiz celebrates winning the bronze medal in the Customer Service competition.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students competed in three categories and took home a bronze medal at the 2026 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, June 1-5, in Atlanta.
Janie Ruiz, a resident of Rome, received the bronze medal in the Customer Service competition. She studies Business Management at GNTC’s Floyd County Campus.
“I am so proud of all our competitors for working so hard and representing GNTC on the national level. They are all champions in my eyes,” said Missy McLain, SkillsUSA advisor for GNTC.
Six GNTC students were among the more than 6,500 state champions who competed for national gold, silver, and bronze medals in 114 skilled and leadership competitions. An estimated 19,000 people attended the conference, including students, instructors, and industry partners.

According to SkillsUSA, the organization serves more than 444,000 career and technical education students and instructors annually and has served 15 million members since 1965. The organization has chapters in middle schools, high schools and college/postsecondary institutions across the nation.
