Authorities have recovered the body of a man who went missing in Lake Allatoona on Sunday.
Georgia Department of Natural Resources game wardens, working with Bartow County Fire/Rescue, located and recovered the body of 28-year-old Fidel Ojwang of Lilburn early Monday.
He was found approximately 60 feet underwater near Glade Marina using boat-mounted SONAR.
At around 12:49 p.m. Sunday, Ojwang exited the back of a ski boat, went underwater, and did not resurface. Search teams responded immediately and continued working through the night with additional personnel and equipment.
The case is now with the Bartow County Coroner’s Office.
Officials continue to stress the importance of water safety. Georgia law requires children under 13 to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket unless they are inside a fully enclosed cabin, and every boat must carry a life jacket for each person on board.
Boaters and skiers should always designate a sober operator, use a spotter when towing, and stay alert to conditions on the water. Wearing a properly fitted life jacket remains one of the best ways to stay safe while enjoying the lake.
