-Cartersville Police Department-
A Cartersville man is accused of leading police on a chase late last week.
According to a Cartersville Police Department report:
A Chevy truck passed a police officer on Cassville Road with no headlights on.
The officer caught up with the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on Sugar Valley Road.
The driver, 38-year-old Brandon Thomas Sanford, stuck his head out of the driver’s side window and held up a peace sign to the officer and drove off.
During the pursuit, another officer pulled his vehicle into the intersection of Bartow Street and Cherokee Avenue in an attempt to intercept Sanford, who accelerated through the intersection toward the officer.
A couple of P.I.T. maneuvers were unsuccessful, but Sanford’s truck was finally boxed in on South Erwin Street near Cook Street.
Sanford told police that he fled because he was drunk.
He is charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony obstruction, reckless driving, misdemeanor obstruction, failure to stop at a stop sign, no headlights, and failure to stop at a traffic control device.
